Mother Punishes Son For Bad Grades By Forcing Him To Kill His Pet

Excuse me while my head explodes. *BANG*

And here I thought my parents were harsh when they grounded me for a month and didn't allow me to go to the first dance of my junior high career because I bombed a history test in grade seven. Boy was I wrong about that being harsh.

Actually, harsh is a huge understatement in this case. I think sick, demented, and abusive are a better fit.

Apparently an American mom in Georgia was very disappointed in her twelve-year old son's grade (yes, singular according to reports) so as punishment she forced him to kill his pet hamster with a hammer.

I'll let that soak in.

He got a bad grade so she forced him to BLUDGEON his pet to death.

He told his teacher, who called the authorities, who in turn charged her with animal cruelty, child cruelty and battery. Now she is sitting in jail awaiting the next step in the proceedings.

Even if this child had consistently bad grades, even if he was truant, hell -- even if he was a bully who made other children's lives miserable on a daily basis -- he would never EVER deserve to be put through that kind of life altering, psyche damaging act. No one deserves that.

I don't care if his pet was a caterpillar he found in his back garden and kept in a jar in his room. He probably cared for -- if not truly loved -- that pet and his mother -- who undoubtedly has her son's undying love -- made him end that life.

A mother never would ask a child to kill an innocent. Never.

Disturbed individuals, sociopaths and the like, often have higher childhood incidents of maiming and killing pets and animals. It is part of what is called the Macdonald triad of behavioural characteristics that are often associated with sociopaths. It usually revolves around the need to feel powerful when they feel powerless or humiliated. So what does it mean about a parent who forces their child to take a life? Actually, I don't want to imagine what it means or what impact it is going to have on this boy.

I'm sorry, I have to go hug my child and our cats now. My girl and our cats will never have to worry about this kind of parent-sanctioned punishment ever happening around here.

I read about this earlier on Twitter and was sickened with disbelief. I didn't have the stomach to click the link and read the entire story. My heart hurts for the anguish this young man has been through and will, inevitably continue to go through.

WTF??? One of my ten year olds most precious gifts is that he is such a kind soul. There are times when animal cops bothers him. I can't imagine any mother who would kill her childs spirit for punishment. I hope she sits in her cell a long time.

I just can't imagine what kid of sick and twisted person this mother is! I am so saddened that these people get to have children. I feel for that child. Hopefully he gets some help to overcome this tragic even. My heart goes out to him.
