Wow, I'm all about judgment this week at The Bad Moms Club. First it was Crafts! With Placenta! Now it's Tom Cruise! Indulgence to the Extreme! I know I shouldn't judge, I don't want to judge, but OMFG, I can't help but judge.
I'm only human, dammit.
Tom Cruise just dropped - wait for it - thirty-thousand dollars on one toy - ONE - for his four year old daughter Suri.
[I'd think that he was out of touch if he had dropped thirty-thousand on ALL of Suri's toys together, but one? ONE???]
Apparently Suri was "mesmerized" by Indy car racing so Poppa Tommy had a custom-made mini race car made for his little lady and it only cost $30,000. Since Suri is only 25% of the way to actually having a legal license in most countries, she is restricted to using it in the family driveway. Which is probably longer than most race tracks but still, restrictive nonetheless.
$30,000. Let me let that number sink in for a minute. Chr*st on a cracker -- my last REAL car didn't even cost that much and I was allowed to drive it on the streets. AND it had German engineering.
Hey! Tommy Boy! I'm small, cute and mesmerized by Viggo Mortonsen: care to get me a replica made? I promise I'll stop calling you Tommy Boy.
He does realize that by indulging her every whim he is setting her up for a lifetime of disappointment, doesn't he? One does not appreciate magic if every wish is granted. Or so I keep telling myself and my daughter.
And so begins our next generation of poor little rich kids.
good grief!
I wish I had $30,000, if I did, I could finally afford to put a deposit on a house and start having my own kids!

@Becca_Masters I KNOW! I keep dreaming of what Id do with 30K and guess what? Having a toy car built for my 4yo still hasnt been added to the list.

Well that it just downright ridiculous. You know, I just heard somewhere that the Beckham's bought those mini vehicles for their boys as well. What in the world do these parents think they're accomplishing by indulging each and every whim? As someone pointed out on a blog post I wrote a few weeks ago...this is the reason why we have Paris Hiltons.
Un-sticking-believable!
Kristi, Hello...Is This On?

$30K to him, probably isn't all that much money-I just can't help but wonder how that money could have helped a lot of people. I mean, my kids like one thing one day and the next they're on to something else...maybe he can eBay it when she wants something new.
Posted by: nicole | 01/12/2010 at 10:38 AM
@Kristi - Exactly, this is WHY we have the Paris Hiltons of the world. Please don't let Suri be Paris 2.0.

@Nicole $30K may be pocket change to him but he can't be that clueless that this is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for child's toy. And so true, Suri will probably be bored with it in no time at all (like my kid would be). I wonder if Tom does use eBay for his surplus goods...

@Charismatickid - sorry dude, my Tommy spy cam was broken this week.
Posted by: katie | motherbumper | 01/12/2010 at 10:47 AM
Forget just getting bored with it. She's going to grow out of it like kids do with all their tiny things. In less than a year this kid will likely be kicking daddy in the shins saying she wants another car because she's too tall to fit in this one.

@RantingRaving The vision you have created of Suri kicking Tommy in the shins made my day. Thank you.

am still just having issues with that pic of her wearing high heels.
Posted by: Crunchy | 01/12/2010 at 06:38 PM
@crunchcarpets Im just waiting for him to buy her a real diamond and ruby tiara to match those heels. His justification: SHE WAS MESMERIZED BY IT, I JUST HAD TO GET IT FOR HER! Dude needs a reality check.
Posted by: motherbumper | 01/12/2010 at 06:40 PM
I'm sure 30K to Tommy Boy is like $5 to the average gal like you or me. However the indulgence of this child that will forever be her reality will make for A NIGHTMARE of a pre-teen, and oh lord when she's a hormonal teenager...she will be a terrorist of a girl! ::shudder:: Not to mention everyone cooing over how beautiful a child she is. This little girl will one day make Paris Hilton's shenanigans look like ameture night!

That is so wrong on so many levels. But so is he, so it balances the universe out.

@Karina - you have now successfully made me more scared of Suri Cruise than Paris Hilton. At least she will give me good blog fodder for the future years to come!
Posted by: motherbumper | 01/12/2010 at 06:49 PM
@Ggs_closet - Unfortunately we DO need teh crazy to remind us what teh normal is, dont we?
Posted by: motherbumper | 01/12/2010 at 06:51 PM
My kid is mesmerized by fighter jets. Doesn't mean I'm going to buy her one. Kids are mesmerized by things 100 times a day. Good grief. It makes me a bit ill to think of spending that kind of money on one toy.

@MajorBedhead I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW (hence my request for Viggo just in case hes listening to others requests). AND if I gave into my daughters latest obsessions, wed be living in a house with a dozen horses, a couple of unicorns, and now that I think about: our house would be a castle.
